MY VISION FOR BOGALUSA — PART 5
STRONGER NEIGHBORHOODS
Improving Bogalusa doesn't always mean tearing something down. Sometimes it means helping someone fix something up.
When we talk about blight, it's easy to look at a house that needs paint, a damaged porch, or an overgrown yard and assume the owner simply doesn't care.
But sometimes the truth is very different.
Some of our elderly, disabled, and low-income homeowners have lived in their homes for decades. They love their homes and their neighborhoods—but they simply don't have thousands of dollars available for repairs.
I believe we need an approach that combines accountability with assistance.
🏠 Bring more home-repair resources to Bogalusa.
Actively pursue federal, state, nonprofit, charitable, and other programs that can help qualifying homeowners make critical repairs.
🛠️ Build partnerships.
Work with churches, civic organizations, businesses, nonprofits, and volunteers to help with appropriate projects such as painting, cleanup, minor repairs, and donated materials.
🌳 Protect and improve our neighborhoods.
Address truly abandoned, dangerous, and neglected properties while helping residents who are genuinely trying to maintain their homes.
📋 Improve the way we approach Code Enforcement.
We need a process that is consistent, effective, and fair—one that produces results instead of allowing problem properties to remain unresolved year after year.
🤝 Help before we condemn.
When someone wants to maintain their property but simply needs a helping hand, I want our community looking for solutions—not just violations.
Every repaired home improves more than one piece of property. It strengthens the entire block. It protects neighboring property values. It builds pride. And little by little, it changes how we see our city—and how others see Bogalusa.
Preserve our homes. Help our neighbors. Fight blight. Build pride.
One home. One block. One neighborhood at a time.
Respect. Unity. Progress.
The Time for Progress Is Now!
